Bill Gates 1976年二月曾經寫了一封著名的公開信 (memo),給當時的computer geek社群:
“As the majority of hobbyists must be aware, most of you steal your software. … Who cares if the people who worked on it get paid?”
於是,「軟體產業」這個名詞就從人類的歷史上正式出現。

應該所有的Marketer都知道4P代表了什麼,自從各大專院校紛紛採用教父Kotler的教科書後…4P創造了一個美好的世界,充滿創意的年輕人紛紛跳入火…直到發現,地球上大概只有1.) 擺路邊攤的執行長和2.) 一般企業內的高階行銷主管能實權操作4P,一般社會新鮮人?乖乖到一旁把以前學的通通砍掉重練吧!所以,咳咳,所以,我心目中的真.教父 - Seth Godin提出的”DSPLC”真可謂市場的一股清流啊…

之前D6 Conference,很多記者開玩笑說Ballmer口中只要一說出G….開頭的那家公司,表情就會非常痛苦。我是記得Opening Interview其中一段,Ballmer故意Goooooo了一下(拖長尾音),引來全場一陣爆笑。
不過昨天那一串導報導蒐集中,Steve Ballmer在Financial Times的Q&A中表現得很不一樣,被記者問道Microsoft這幾年進軍網路搜尋領域,學到了什麼,他作了這樣回答:
FT: What lessons are there from Microsoft’s late move into search?
MR BALLMER: I think we have to keep agile. I do fault us for the speed with which we dove into search, primarily because we didn’t see the business model. And I give Google credit for innovating in the business model around search. They did a nice job on that, and that’s why they won.
I think one of the mistakes we made, and I think we’ve said this before, is having a five-year gap between Windows releases did calcify our ability to react to anything, because there was a five-year window basically where a big part of our R&D resources were fairly locked in. It doesn’t mean everything should be a six-month cycle, I don’t believe in that, but we’ve got to have more flexibility in our R&D commitments than that.
我相信檢討、內部歸因,才是進步的原動力。在Microsoft,很少聽到大家在討論市場景氣。「哎呀這季雖然下滑,還不是景氣如何如何,競爭者如何如何…」那都只是輸家會掛在嘴邊的話。景氣和競爭者是要插在地上當benchmark,然後beat beat beat。

6月底將是Gates在Microsoft最後一天全職上班日,國際各大媒體從本週開始陸續跑了回顧過去,展望未來的新聞,當然囉,要趁熱來蒐集一下,幾百年後歷史學家想要考古可以來這邊看看。
首先聲明一下,我覺得部份媒體將Transitioning翻譯成「退休」不很恰當,Gates實際上還保留Chairman(董事長)頭銜,每週一天回到Microsoft上班,保留email帳號,仍會參與大方向的決策。我想,最大的改變是他個人的dream,從 “a PC in every home” (家家戶戶都有電腦) 到 “healthy people in every country”(家家國國都是健康的居民<- 這是啥翻譯XD )
有人小時後是把Bill Gates當偶像嗎?我是耶。記得是小學一二年級時,先是從一本科普漫畫學到什麼是電腦、 電腦的演進史 (我一直以為世界上第一部電腦叫做「阿摩尼亞號」,直到國中之後才發現阿摩尼亞是尿的成份之一…正確名稱是ENIAC…) 接著知道有一個叫做比爾蓋茲的人,好像挺厲害,最後不知不覺寫蔣公小魚力爭上游那類作文都會提到他了…
如果可以當面問他一句話,我想問:”Hey Mr. Gates, how do you think about Mark Zuckerberg?”
ok回歸正題,來蒐集相關新聞,這篇應該會陸續更新到7月初。

In 2004, about 40% of people visited a homepage and then drilled down to where they wanted to go and 60% use a deep link that took them directly to a page or destination inside a site. 最後一句不知道是BBC記者愛說廢話,還是Web Usability一代大師Jakob Nielsen愛說廢話:
“In the long run anyone who wants to beat Google just has to make a better search,” said Dr Nielsen.
大師怎麼會說出這麼空洞的論點…

我的感想似乎和 marketing沒有關係:
原來不是政治人物愛在電視上作秀,而是觀眾(市場)喜歡or想要看秀。媒體只是搭起供給和需求的橋樑罷了。
下回邊看電視邊罵之前,先想想自己怎麼會停在電視前邊看邊罵。

上週四和合作夥伴聊到如何於社群/論壇中推廣活動,我把過去看過與親身經歷過的案例歸納,得出了以上三個大方向。
一切還是得回到 - 你能不能讓拋出去的訊息成為對話的一部。而如何讓社群成員對你的訊息回應,第一步驟就是要讓大家看得出這是一個「真人」以「真誠的態度」在說「真人會說的話」。
大多廣告文案則剛好相反…

俗話說的好,知彼知己,百戰百勝,Steve Jobs每年在WWDC的keynote我都會仔細看過一遍。此人的Presentation Skill相當值得學習。台下的Apple Fans的歡呼單然也是重點。(你要如何做到每次產品發表會,台下觀眾、記者都為你歡呼呢?)但Steve今年似乎沒有去年宣佈iPhone和MacBook Air來的有活力(?!)可能是這次網友間流傳的謠言幾乎都命中此次規格,沒特別的surprise。
要如何才能做到產品發表會前,將user的期望炒熱到天邊(完全保密,讓大家猜),發表會後,交出來的產品又符合user的超高期望呢?

2.人傾向於追求身邊沒有的事物
3.人傾向於將心理上認同的事物優點無限放大,大到能將認同事物邏輯上的缺點視而不見 (昨天剛告白成功的女(男)友有缺點嗎)
3.人傾向於將心理上不認同的事物缺點無限放大,大到能將不認同事物邏輯上的優點視而不見(剛從你家偷走電視的小偷有優點嗎)
4.人傾向於越來越相信自已經相信的觀點,越來越不相信自己經不相信的觀點
5.人傾向於不珍惜隨手可得的事物,不珍惜你有我也有的事物 (買新筆電的人,有感覺自己是付四位數字台幣買了OEM的Vista嗎?除了CIO外,IT部門的員工會感覺到公司花了一大筆錢,才換來新的作業系統佈署嗎?)
6.人永遠是從眾的動物,當一個人提出異議時,你能保有獨立的觀點,當59億人都與你持反對意見時,你就動搖了(100年後,你的獨立觀點會讓你成為瘋子或偉人)
這就是今日Windows Vista面臨的挑戰。這也是股票市場這麼多散戶套牢、一窩蜂追高殺低的由來。
ps. 昨天才聽到朋友說,哇我的電腦好難用,MAC「試用」起來好炫好好用、我「用過一次」MAC後就再也不想回頭用Vista了…
這算是上面第幾點呢?

Gartner發佈了一篇未來四年將改變企業運作型態的10大科技趨勢,分別如下:

What does this all mean, and more importantly what should a successful IT staffer (or CIO) do today? The key to your future success is to understand how IT is going to change and what you need to do to change with it. IT is going to become much more about information and how it can be used to help the business grow and prosper. This IT function is going to leave the IT department as we know it today and will migrate into the business unit itself. What this means to you is that you need to know what your firm does, and even more importantly, how it does it. The next question will be what information is needed by the business units to improve how they do their work. This is what tomorrow’s IT staff will provide. 最近Live Search動作不斷,昨天又宣佈將成為09年HP美加地區出貨電腦之預設瀏覽器搜尋引擎。

繼在低價筆記型電腦上推出Windows版本作業系統大受歡迎後,MS也將進軍低價桌上型電腦。
原來”netbook”的意思就是低價筆記型電腦,”nettop”的意思就是低價桌上型電腦。如果不是仔細看第一段的說明,還真的不知道標題要表達的意思。看來今年台灣Computex展還滿成功的,低價電腦王國要發光發熱了!
零售商反應不錯:
“The feedback from our customers in retail and the reseller channel is that they overwhelmingly prefer to sell the Eee PC running with Windows. To move our existing Linux inventory, we are now offering our channel the option of purchasing Windows XP with their Eee units so they can provide a compelling offering for customers.”
只能說成也習慣,敗也習慣。舊產品的使用者習慣能讓消費者排斥掉競爭者的產品,但對自家的新產品竟也造成了威脅…

Google剛推出中文AdSense網誌。很高興看到台灣的企業部落格又加入了新血。日後也會多觀摩台灣Google如何操作此Blog。
然而,要非常小心經營,才不會把企業部落格變成YAMP - Yet Another Marketing Ploy…
推廣、宣傳、廣告、分享、促銷、曝光、公關…這些在Blog上要如何界定?如果只是把官網上的最新公告搬到Blog,這樣還是Blog嗎?如果官方不回應Comments(正面或負面),這樣還是Blog嗎?經營企業部落格可能主持記者會還需要更多微妙的技巧…
